FAQ

Common questions

What actually moves the XAU/USD price?

Gold responds mainly to real interest rates, the US dollar, inflation expectations, central bank buying and demand for safe assets during stress. Because it pays no yield, higher rates tend to weigh on it. News on any of these can move price sharply, which is why leverage on gold needs care.

What does one pip mean on gold and how is it priced?

For XAU/USD one pip is 0.01, and one standard lot is 100 oz, so a one-pip move is worth one US cent per ounce, or $1 per standard lot. A reference price near 4275.0 means a full dollar move is 100 pips. Use the pip value calculator to see this at your own lot size.

How many hours a day can I trade gold from Nigeria?

XAU/USD trades roughly from Sunday evening to Friday evening in global sessions, which in Nigerian time means the market is open through the night and into the next day. Liquidity concentrates around the London and New York sessions. Check the trading hours page for the local-time breakdown before planning a session.

Is gold more volatile than currency pairs?

Gold typically moves more in dollar terms than major currency pairs, and the 0.01 pip step means small price changes translate into real money quickly at standard lot size. That is why risk per trade and stop distance matter more than the direction you pick on any single day.

Why does the gold price on this site differ from my broker's chart?

A live feed and a broker quote can differ because of the data source, the bid or ask side shown, and the time the snapshot was taken. Our reference price near 4275.0 is a guide, not an executable quote. Your broker's platform is the price you actually trade.
